The Pensacola Ice Flyers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Huntsville Havoc would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. A goal by Bryant Doerrsam put Huntsville up 3-0 in the second period, but Pensacola pulled to within one on Ryan Salvis's tally 14:23 into the third period. The Havoc put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Ice Flyers to score on any of their five power plays. The defensemen of Huntsville were also effective in Pensacola's zone, and came away with two goals. The Havoc's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.1 shots per game they average. Huntsville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes. The Havoc were led by Kyle Laughlin, who tallied one goal and one assist. Laughlin scored 5:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Brett Liscomb picked up the assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Paul DAgostino as well. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Sam Cannata and Ian Boots, who each chipped in one. The Ice Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Pensacola put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.0 it averages per game. Ron Cramer also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Kevin Kozlowski and Dylan Gilbert, who contributed one a piece. Huntsville's Dan McWhinney stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Gerry Festa rejected 32 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. |
