Louisiana hangs on, beats Mississippi Surge 2-0

Matthew Robertson scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Louisiana IceGators held off the challenges of Mississippi Surge in a tough 2-0 win.

A goal 19:49 into the the first period by Robertson proved to be the game winner, and powered Louisiana to the victory The IceGators had taken the advantage when Mississippi Surge's Mark Pawlowski got sent off for holding. Kirk Byczynski provided the assist.

Louisiana was boosted by Riley Gill, who turned in a shutout with 29 saves. Gill certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.23 entering the contest.

The IceGators were led by Robertson, who grabbed one goal.

Louisiana featured an improved defense during the game. The IceGators gives up 2.7 goals on average per game. By firing 35 shots on goal, Louisiana exceeded the 20.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Louisiana also got a goal from Matt Miller as well. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Greg Brown, Shawn McNeil, and Matt Lawrance, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge could not produce up to it normal offensive output. Mississippi Surge puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game. Mississippi Surge put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.7 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge was led by Jeff Grant, who took four shots.

The IceGators totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's BJ OBrien stopped 33 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Mississippi Surge totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
