Toomey stymies Huntsville, Knoxville wins 5-1

Connor Toomey stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Knoxville Ice Bears to a 5-1 victory over the Huntsville Havoc.

Knoxville was led by Matt Pierce, who finished with one goal. Pierce scored on the power play 10:53 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. The Ice Bears had gained a power play chance when Sam Cannata was whistled for roughing. Shaun Arvai picked up the assist.

Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Huntsville to score on any of its four power plays. The defensemen of the Ice Bears were also effective in the Havoc's zone, and came away with three goals. Knoxville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 34 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.2 shots per game it averages.

Knoxville additionally got points from Arvai, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Knoxville also got a goal from Jeremy Klaver as well. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Eric Satim, Brett Valliquette, and Emery Olauson, who each chipped in one and Tyler Fernandez and Jon Higgins, who contributed two a piece.

The 26 shots that Huntsville put on net surpassed the Havoc's average of 19.2 shots per game this season. Huntsville was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

The Havoc were led by Nick Lazorko, who scored the team's only goal. Lazorko scored 7:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Ian Boots assisted on the tally.

The Ice Bears totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. Dan McWhinney recorded 29 saves for Huntsville.
