Gill leads Louisiana to shutout victory over Mississippi Surge

The Louisiana IceGators used a sparkling performance by Riley Gill to take down Mississippi Surge, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Louisiana's 3-0 shutout victory.

The IceGators were led by Shawn McNeil, who tallied one goal. McNeil scored 5:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Troy Ofukany assisted on the tally.

Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The IceGators' defensive effort looked to be improved. Louisiana allows 2.8 goals per game. By firing 29 shots on goal, the IceGators exceeded the 20.1 shots they average per game this year.

Matt Miller also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Josh Duplantis, Matthew Robertson, Jordan Foreman, and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one a piece.

Mississippi Surge stifled Louisiana's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi Surge was held below its usual level of production. Mississippi Surge puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 18.4 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi Surge was led by Jay Silvia, who took four shots.

Riley Gill made 26 saves for the IceGators on 26 shots. Louisiana incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kiefer Smiley rejected 26 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
