Columbus rips Mississippi RiverKings, 3-0

The Columbus Cottonmouths were firing on all cylinders against Mississippi RiverKings, and when the final buzzer sounded Cottonmouths emerged with a 3-0 win.

Columbus was led by Chris Bailer, who tallied one goal. Bailer scored 4:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Sam Bowles provided the assist.

The Cottonmouths was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Columbus gives up 2.5 goals on average per game. By firing 32 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 19.3 shots they average per game this year.

Biff McNally also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Kevin Kessler, Derek Pallardy, and Jason Yuel, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its three power plays. Mississippi RiverKings did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Mississippi RiverKings puts an average of 2.8 pucks into the net per game. With 22 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 17.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Brian Yanovitch, who took four shots.

Andrew Loewen rejected 22 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Matthew Krahn recorded 29 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Mississippi RiverKings, Tyler Sheldrake was ejected from the game.
