Augusta outlasts Louisiana, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Augusta RiverHawks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Louisiana IceGators.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Michael Switzer at 15:39 of the third period.

Augusta pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The RiverHawks were paced by Switzer, who tallied one goal.

Augusta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Louisiana to score on any of its six power plays. With 23 shots on target during the contest, the RiverHawks exceeded the 18.5 shots they average per game this year.

Augusta also got points from Taylor McReynolds, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Casey Mignone, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Augusta also got a goal from Kyle Watson as well. More assists for Augusta came via Luke Frey, Jesse Echternach, Taylor Larsen, Matt Auffrey, and Alex Morton, who each chipped in one.

The IceGators racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Louisiana had been spending in the box.

The IceGators were helped by Cody Zubko, who had one goal. Zubko scored 1:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kirk Byczynski picked up the assist. Tyler Lyon also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Shawn McNeil and Marc Andre Carre, who contributed one a piece.

Augusta's Robbie Moss stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The RiverHawks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Riley Gill made 19 saves for Louisiana on 23 shots. For the IceGators, Carre was ejected from the game.
