Louisiana survives penalties, beats Mississippi Surge, 2-1Cajundome Sun, Mar 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators, which found themselves down a man often, weathered Mississippi Surge's power play opportunities and emerged with a 2-1 victory. Louisiana was led by Josh Duplantis, who grabbed one goal. Duplantis scored 13:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Greg Brown assisted on the tally. The IceGators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its six power plays. With 37 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 25.6 shots it averages per game this year. Marc Andre Carre also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Shawn McNeil, Kevin Brojek, and Troy Ofukany, who contributed one a piece. Mississippi Surge found itself short handed often, totaling 21 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Branden Kosolofsky, Matt Ridley and Nathan Oke took 13 of the team's 21 shots. Mississippi Surge was led by Matt Gordon, who scored the team's only goal. Gordon scored 17:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Kudroch picked up the assist. The IceGators' Breton Lindoff stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Louisiana ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. BJ OBrien rejected 35 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge.
