Edmondson's big game bests Mississippi RiverKings in 5-2 Mississippi Surge win

Mississippi Surge's Reid Edmondson had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over Mississippi RiverKings.

Edmondson got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 12:58 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mississippi Surge. A tripping call on Adam Stuart put Mississippi Surge on the penalty kill. Jay Silvia picked up the assist. Edmondson dished an assist on Stuart's goal that made the score 2-0 Mississippi Surge at 16:34 into the first period. He added another helper on Stuart's goal that made the score 4-2 Mississippi Surge at 8:28 into the third period.

With 30 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 18.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Anthony Collins, Kyle VanderMale, and Trent Bonnett, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Mississippi RiverKings had been spending in the box. Mississippi RiverKings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Mississippi Surge power plays. Mississippi RiverKings put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.6 it averages per game.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Todd Hosmer, who tallied one goal. Hosmer scored on the power play 4:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi RiverKings had gained a power play chance when VanderMale was whistled for tripping. Mike MacDonald provided the assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Matt Harrington as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Matt Whitehead, who had two.

Mississippi Surge's Kiefer Smiley stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Matthew Krahn made 25 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 30 shots. Mississippi RiverKings registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Mississippi RiverKings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Lundale was ejected from the game.
