Huntsville rolls over Knoxville, 5-1

The Huntsville Havoc were firing on all cylinders against the Knoxville Ice Bears, and when the final buzzer sounded Havoc emerged with a 5-1 win.

Huntsville's Dan McWhinney was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 43 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of McWhinney will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.51.

The Havoc racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Huntsville had been spending in the box. The Havoc put 24 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.5 they average per game. Huntsville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Havoc average 2.5 goals per game.

Huntsville was led by Brent Tamane, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Tamane scored the first of his two goals at 2:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Nick Lazorko picked up the assist. Tamane's next tally made the score 3-1 Huntsville with 10:10 left in the second period. Brett Liscomb provided the assist. Huntsville also got points from Justin Fox, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Aaron McGill also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Leland Fidler, who had one and Stuart Stefan, who had two.

The Knoxville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Knoxville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Ice Bears put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Knoxville's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 18 shots between them. The Ice Bears' offense rang up 44 shots on the Havoc's net.

Knoxville was led by Brendan Taylor, who scored the team's only goal. Taylor scored on the power play 7:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. The Ice Bears earned a power play opportunity when Liscomb was put in the box for high sticking. Tyler Fernandez picked up the assist.

Huntsville registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Connor Toomey made 19 saves for Knoxville on 24 shots. The Ice Bears registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
