Fayetteville hangs on, beats Columbus 3-1Columbus Civic Center Fri, Jan 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fayetteville FireAntz beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 4:35 into the the first period by Brian Elser proved to be the game winner, and powered Fayetteville to the victory Marco Emond provided the assist.The FireAntz were led by Anthony Bergin, who racked up one goal. Bergin scored 13:04 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Fayetteville. Ben Contini assisted on the tally. Fayetteville stifled Columbus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fayetteville also got points from Elser, who also registered one goal and one assist and Josh McQuade, who also had one goal and one assist. The Cottonmouths were led by Matt Gingera, who scored the team's only goal. Gingera scored 18:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Alex MacLeod provided the assist. Emond rejected 24 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Columbus' Ian Vigier stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Cottonmouths totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
