Mississippi Surge beats Huntsville 5-1 as Silvia gets hat trick

The Huntsville Havoc could not stop Mississippi Surge's Jay Silvia, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win.

Silvia's first goal came 59 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 19:49 into the second and at 14:01 into the third.

With 34 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 17.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Reid Edmondson, who also had one goal and one assist. Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Jarkko Leppanen, who had two and Kyle VanderMale, Adam Stuart, and Kiefer Smiley, who contributed one a piece.

Huntsville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Huntsville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Chapen LeBlond, Justin Fox and Aaron McGill took 11 of the team's 18 shots.

Jonathan LaRose made 29 saves for the Havoc on 34 shots. Huntsville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
