Crum leads Mississippi Surge over Fayetteville, 5-2

Mississippi Surge's BJ Crum had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-2 win over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Crum beat Marco Emond with a shot 4:23 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Mississippi Surge. Andrew Harrison picked up the assist. Crum dished an assist on Joe Harcharik's goal that made the score 2-0 Mississippi Surge at 3:36 into the first period. He added another helper on Kyle Kudroch's goal that made the score 3-0 Mississippi Surge at 2:23 into the second period.

Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 16.6 shots per game it averages. Mississippi Surge outdid its season average for goals scored. Mississippi Surge has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Reid Edmondson also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Anthony Collins, who had two and Nicholas Kuqali, Adam Stuart, and Jay Silvia, who contributed one a piece.

Fayetteville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mississippi Surge power plays. The FireAntz failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 21 pucks on goal after averaging 26.9 shots per game this season. Fayetteville's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put nine shots on net during the game.

The FireAntz were led by Ben Contini, who had two goals. Contini scored the first of his two goals at 10:41 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Mississippi Surge. Contini's next tally made the score 5-2 Mississippi Surge with 5:57 left in the second period. A boarding penalty on Collins had put Fayetteville on the power play. Brandon Richardson assisted on the tally. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Brock Sawyer, who had one.

Dan Clark made 19 saves for Mississippi Surge on 21 shots. Mississippi Surge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Marco Emond took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Kyle Rank who made 15 saves. The FireAntz incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
