Augusta uses shootout to best Mississippi RiverKings, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Shawn Skelly netted the deciding goal for the Augusta RiverHawks in the shootout as RiverHawks prevailed over Mississippi RiverKings, 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.

Augusta overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The RiverHawks trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Steven Kaunisto at 2:07 in the third period. Augusta tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Casey Mignone at 19:48 in the third period.

The 25 shots that the RiverHawks put on net surpassed Augusta's average of 22.3 shots per game this season.

Kyle Watson also scored for Augusta. Other players who recorded assists for Augusta were Matt Auffrey, who had two and Curtis Megginson and Alex Morton, who each chipped in one.

By firing 46 shots on goal, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 26.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings was led by Mike MacDonald, who grabbed two goals. MacDonald scored the first of his two goals at 19:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Darrell Stoddard assisted on the tally. MacDonald's next tally made the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings with 11:30 left in the second period. Kyle Lundale picked up the assist. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Harrington and Todd Hosmer, who contributed one a piece.

Robbie Moss made 43 saves for the RiverHawks on 46 shots. Augusta totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. David Wilson recorded 21 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
