Louisiana vanquishes Pensacola in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Jeremey Boyer scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Louisiana IceGators picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Pensacola's shootout goal was scored by Mike MacIntyre. Louisiana's other shootout goal was scored by Jordan Foreman.

The IceGators overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana was down 2-0 after a goal by the Ice Flyers' Jeremiah Ketts at 3:03 in the first period. The IceGators tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Robert Short at 18:33 in the second period.

Louisiana put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pensacola to score on any of its three power plays. With 35 shots on target during the contest, the IceGators exceeded the 20.7 shots they average per game this year.

Louisiana was helped by Kirk Byczynski, who racked up one goal. Byczynski scored 3:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Matt Lawrance picked up the assist. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Matthew Robertson and Kyle OKane, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Louisiana power plays. The 31 shots that Pensacola put on net surpassed the Ice Flyers' average of 23.3 shots per game this season.

Pensacola was helped by John Dunbar, who finished with one goal. Dunbar scored 2:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Ryan Salvis provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Bill Foster and Kevin Kozlowski, who each chipped in one.

Riley Gill recorded 29 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Ice Flyers' Gerry Festa stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Pensacola incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
