Columbus downs Knoxville in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Matt Gingera gave the Columbus Cottonmouths a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears when he scored 3:59 into the extra period.

Columbus came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cottonmouths fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Knoxville's Matt Pierce at 16:46 in the first period. Columbus knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mark Thorburn at 14:06 in the third period.

The Cottonmouths were sparked by Gingera, who racked up one goal and one assist.

The Ice Bears were unable to stop Columbus from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cottonmouths eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Columbus also got a goal from Sam Bowles as well. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Jordan Braid, Alex MacLeod, Levi Lind, and Jason Yuel, who each chipped in one.

Knoxville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its three power plays.

Mark Van Vliet also scored for Knoxville. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Nate Peterson, Peter Neal, and Zach Tatrn, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Loewen made 24 saves for the Cottonmouths on 26 shots. Columbus ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. Peter Skoggard rejected 31 shots on goal for the Ice Bears. Knoxville totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
