Augusta survives Columbus comeback, wins 4-2

The Columbus Cottonmouths almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Augusta RiverHawks managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Augusta led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the RiverHawks' Ian Watters's scored at 6:29 in the second period to put Augusta up 3-0.

Columbus was unable to stop the RiverHawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Augusta eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The RiverHawks were helped by Matt Auffrey, who grabbed one goal. Auffrey scored 17:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Augusta. Chad Ziegler assisted on the tally. Augusta also got a goal from Kyle Watson as well. More assists for Augusta came via Taylor McReynolds and Casey Mignone, who contributed one a piece.

The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Sam Bowles, Jordan Braid and John Sullivan took 20 of the team's 35 shots.

In addition, Columbus received assists from Tom Maldonado, Alex MacLeod, and Levi Lind, who each chipped in one.

Robbie Moss recorded 33 saves for Augusta. The RiverHawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Vigier rejected 31 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
