Pensacola vanquishes Columbus in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Columbus Civic Center Thu, Jan 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Mike MacIntyre scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (2-1 SO) win over the Columbus Cottonmouths. The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Columbus' shootout goal was scored by John Sullivan. In addition to the clincher, Pensacola got a shootout goal from Ron Cramer.The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cottonmouths to score on any of their four power plays. Pensacola relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as MacIntyre, Ryan Salvis and Pat Knowlton took 18 of the team's 34 shots. The Ice Flyers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Pensacola also got a goal from John Dunbar as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Jordan Chong, Leo Thomas, and Brent Clarke, who each chipped in one. Columbus relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Sullivan, Sam Bowles and Levi Lind took 19 of the team's 35 shots. The Cottonmouths were helped by Matt Gingera, who finished with one goal. Gingera scored 11:01 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Sullivan picked up the assist. Columbus additionally got points from Sullivan, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Biff McNally also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Jason Yuel, who had one and Tom Maldonado, who had two. Pensacola's Ross MacKinnon stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Vigier made 30 saves for Columbus on 33 shots. The Cottonmouths incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
