Huntsville downs Columbus in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Columbus Civic Center Sat, Dec 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Havoc's Ian Boots scored 4:05 into overtime to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 2-1 (OT). Boots was all over the ice for Huntsville, as he grabbed two goals in the win. The Havoc's Dan McWhinney was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of McWhinney will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.79. Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Kyle Laughlin, Stuart Stefan and Colin Reddin took 20 of the team's 36 shots. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Aaron McGill and Brett Liscomb, who each chipped in one. The 30 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 25.3 shots per game this season. Columbus was led by Levi Lind, who scored the team's only goal. Lind scored 3:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Bret Tyler picked up the assist. Huntsville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Vigier rejected 34 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
