Fayetteville squeaks by Augusta, 5-3

The game between the Fayetteville FireAntz and the Augusta RiverHawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Fayetteville emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brandon Richardson at 6:21 of the third period.

The FireAntz got the win with help from a great game by John Clewlow, who had two goals and one assist. Clewlow scored the first of his two goals at 7:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ben Contini provided the assist. Clewlow's next tally made the score 5-3 Fayetteville with 45 seconds left in the third period. Bobby Reed picked up the assist.

Fayetteville put 42 shots on net during the contest, more than the 32.4 it averages per game.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Richardson, who also had one goal and one assist and Reed, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Brian Elser as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Corey Toy, Brock Sawyer, Derek Elliott, Mike Gurtler, and Tristin Llewellyn, who contributed one a piece.

Augusta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the FireAntz to score on any of their five power plays. With 35 shots on target during the contest, the RiverHawks exceeded the 28.8 shots they average per game this year.

Augusta was helped by Chad Ziegler, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Ziegler scored 6:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Augusta. Pat Schafer provided the assist. Augusta also got points from Schafer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Matt Auffrey also scored for Augusta. More assists for Augusta came via William Lacasse, who had three.

Fayetteville's Kyle Rank stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The FireAntz incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The RiverHawks took out Robbie Moss after he had made 29 saves and installed Austin Lee in goal, where he finished with eight saves and the loss. Augusta incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
