Mississippi Surge came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Fayetteville FireAntz, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. Mississippi Surge led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Mississippi Surge's Adam Stuart's scored at 12:33 in the second period to put Mississippi Surge up 4-1. Stuart had a great game for Mississippi Surge, netting two goals. In the losing effort, Fayetteville was led by Josh McQuade, who finished with two goals and one assist. McQuade scored the first of his two goals at 18:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Andrew Smale picked up the assist. McQuade's next tally made the score 4-3 Mississippi Surge with 1:58 left in the third period. Brock Sawyer provided the assist. Mississippi Surge stifled the FireAntz's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississippi Surge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. By firing 33 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 28.6 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi Surge also got points from Tommy Lange, who also registered one goal and one assist. Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Branden Kosolofsky, who had two and Nicholas Kuqali, Kyle VanderMale, Derek Graham, and Kiefer Smiley, who each chipped in one. Fayetteville also got a goal from Derek Elliott as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Ben Contini, who had one. Smiley recorded 26 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Marco Emond made 28 saves for Fayetteville on 32 shots. The FireAntz totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
