Pensacola uses shootout to best Mississippi RiverKings, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Mike MacIntyre scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over Mississippi RiverKings.

The shootout lasted for 18 attempts between the teams.

Pensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its three power plays.

The Ice Flyers were helped by Leo Thomas, who had one goal. Thomas scored 9:36 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Ryan Salvis picked up the assist. Pensacola additionally got points from Salvis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Ron Cramer and Steve Bergin, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi RiverKings' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.8 shots per game it averages.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Ian Finnerty, who tallied one goal. Finnerty scored short handed 14:20 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Mississippi RiverKings was on a disadvantage when Patrick Gaul went off the ice for high sticking. Steven Kaunisto also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Jeremy Dawes and Todd Hosmer, who contributed one a piece.

Steve Christie rejected 33 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matthew Krahn took the otl and made 17 saves before being replaced by David Wilson who made nine saves. Mississippi RiverKings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
