Louisiana hangs on, beats Pensacola 2-0

Marc Andre Carre gave the Louisiana IceGators the lead in the first period, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

A goal 11:50 into the the first period by Carre proved to be the game winner, and powered Louisiana to the victory Tyler Lyon assisted on the tally.

Riley Gill frustrated Pensacola's offense all game, and stopped 39 shots en route to a shutout. Gill managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.22 prior to the game.

The IceGators were sparked by Carre, who finished with one goal.

Louisiana stifled the Ice Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The IceGators featured an improved defense during the game. Louisiana allows 2.6 goals per game. With 26 shots on target during the contest, the IceGators exceeded the 23.2 shots they average per game this year.

Louisiana also got a goal from Kirk Byczynski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Shawn McNeil and Robert Short, who contributed one a piece.

Pensacola excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Ice Flyers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Pensacola puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. The Ice Flyers' offense rang up 39 shots on Louisiana's net.

Pensacola was led by Pat Knowlton, who took six shots.

The IceGators ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Steve Christie made 24 saves for the Ice Flyers on 26 shots. Pensacola totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play.
