Mignone's big game bests Columbus in 5-2 Augusta win

Casey Mignone had two goals and two assists to lead the Augusta RiverHawks to a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

Mignone found the back of the net 9:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Augusta and again while 2:36 into the third to make the score 4-2 Augusta.

Augusta stifled Columbus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The RiverHawks were below their usual level of shot production, taking 23 shots compared to the 29.6 Augusta averages. The RiverHawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Augusta averages 2.4 goals per game.

Augusta also got points from Kyle Watson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Dennis Sicard, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Matt Auffrey, who also racked up one goal and two assists. In addition, Augusta received assists from Michael Switzer, Drew Baker, and Kevin Kozlowski, who contributed one a piece.

The Cottonmouths managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Columbus wound up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 32 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 27.3 shots they average per game this year.

Columbus was helped by Chris Bailer, who had one goal and one assist. Bailer scored 4:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Augusta. Jordan Braid provided the assist. Columbus additionally got points from Braid, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were John Sullivan, who had two.

Robbie Moss recorded 30 saves for the RiverHawks. Augusta incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities. Andrew Loewen rejected 18 shots on goal for the Cottonmouths. Columbus registered zero goals on three power play opportunities.
