Louisiana beats Knoxville 4-2 after comeback scare

The Knoxville Ice Bears tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Louisiana IceGators would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Marc Andre Carre put Louisiana up 4-0 in the third period, but Knoxville pulled to within two on Eric Satim's tally 13:10 into the third period.

The IceGators were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Louisiana had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The IceGators were helped by Jordan Foreman, who finished with one goal. Foreman scored 32 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Louisiana also got a goal from Matthew Robertson as well. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Clark Byczynski, Shawn McNeil, Robert Short, and Eric Tallent, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Knoxville had been spending in the box. The Ice Bears kept Louisiana's goalie busy throughout the game, and Riley Gill made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Tyler Fernandez also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Shaun Arvai, Jeremy Klaver, Brett Valliquette, and Berkley Scott, who contributed one a piece.

The IceGators registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Louisiana ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Greg Brown was ejected from the game. Connor Toomey rejected 17 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
