Huntsville uses shootout to best Augusta, 2-1 (3-1 SO)

Jeremiah Ketts netted the deciding goal for the Huntsville Havoc in the shootout as Havoc prevailed over the Augusta RiverHawks, 2-1 (3-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Augusta got a shootout goal from Matt Auffrey. Huntsville also got shootout goals from Ian Boots and Ketts.

The Havoc came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Huntsville fell behind 1-0 after a goal by the RiverHawks' Matt Atsoff at 4:24 in the first period. The Havoc knotted things up at 1-1 on a short handed goal by Matt Smyth at 4:26 in the third period.

Huntsville's Jonathan LaRose was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 45 saves and let only one puck past him. LaRose certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.0 entering the contest.

The the Havoc penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Havoc put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Augusta to score on any of its six power plays.

More assists for Huntsville came via Boots, who had one.

Huntsville was unable to stop the RiverHawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Augusta eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

In addition, Augusta received assists from Dennis Sicard and Chad Ziegler, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The RiverHawks' BJ OBrien stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Augusta ended with 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors.
