Gurtler's goals lift Fayetteville to 8-2 victory over Knoxville

Mike Gurtler was all over the ice for the Fayetteville FireAntz, as he tallied two goals in Fayetteville's 8-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Gurtler found the back of the net 6:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville and again while 14:23 into the first to make the score 3-1 Fayetteville.

The FireAntz outdid their season average for goals scored. Fayetteville averages 4.1 goals per game. The FireAntz's offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.9 shots per game they average.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Mike Kavanagh, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Josh McQuade, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Bobby Reed, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Anthony Bergin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Ben Contini as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Kyle Frieday, Andrew Smale, and Tristin Llewellyn, who contributed one a piece and Brian Elser, Derek Elliott, and Brandon Richardson, who each chipped in two.

The Knoxville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Knoxville forced Fayetteville goalie Shane Madolora to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Ice Bears were led by Berkley Scott, who racked up one goal. Scott scored 6:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jeremy Klaver provided the assist. Mark Van Vliet also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Eric Satim, Jon Higgins, and Emery Olauson, who contributed one a piece.

Madolora rejected 34 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. Kyle Rank recorded 30 saves for Knoxville. The Ice Bears registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
