Loewen, Columbus blank Mississippi Surge, 1-0

The Columbus Cottonmouths used a sparkling performance by Andrew Loewen to take down Mississippi Surge, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Columbus' 1-0 shutout victory.

Sam Bowles' game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 5:51 in the second period. The Cottonmouths earned a power play opportunity when Matt Ridley was put in the box for boarding. Tom Maldonado provided the assist.

Columbus was paced by Bowles, who registered one goal.

The Cottonmouths failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 21 pucks on goal after averaging 27.1 shots per game this season.

In addition, Columbus received assists from Bret Tyler, who had one.

Mississippi Surge was held below its usual level of production. Mississippi Surge puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The 37 shots that Mississippi Surge put on net surpassed Mississippi Surge's average of 31.0 shots per game this season.

Mississippi Surge was led by Jeff Grant, who took six shots.

Loewen rejected 37 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Dan Clark recorded 20 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
