Pensacola survives Augusta comeback, wins 5-3

The Pensacola Ice Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Augusta RiverHawks on the way to a 5-3 win.

A goal by Ryan Raven put Pensacola up 5-2 in the third period, but Augusta pulled to within two on Chad Ziegler's tally 14:40 into the third period.

The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the RiverHawks to score on any of their five power plays. Pensacola averages 30.0 shots on goal per game, but only sent 22 pucks on net against Augusta.

The Ice Flyers were led by Pat Knowlton, who had three goals. Pensacola additionally got points from Raven, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brent Clarke as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Leo Thomas, who had two and Eddie Effinger, Jeremy Gates, John Dunbar, and Tyler Soehner, who contributed one a piece.

The RiverHawks forced Pensacola goalie Steve Christie to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Justin Daniels also scored for Augusta. In addition, Augusta received assists from Shawn Skelly, who had two and Curtis Megginson and William Lacasse, who each chipped in one.

Christie recorded 29 saves for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Augusta's BJ OBrien stopped 17 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The RiverHawks ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
