Louisiana uses shootout to best Mississippi RiverKings, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Cajundome Sat, Nov 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Marc Andre Carre scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Louisiana IceGators picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (2-1 SO) win over Mississippi RiverKings. The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Mississippi RiverKings' shootout goal was scored by Kyle Lundale. Louisiana's other shootout goal was scored by Robert Short.The IceGators came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana was down 4-1 after a goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Matt Whitehead at 7:29 in the second period. The IceGators knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Denny Kearney at 15:58 in the third period. Louisiana got the win on the strength of a great game by Kearney, who had two goals and one assist. Kearney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:53 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Mississippi RiverKings. The IceGators had taken the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Paul Kurceba got sent off for slashing. Tyler Lyon assisted on the tally. Kearney's next tally on the power play made the score with 4:02 left in the third period. Short provided the assist. Louisiana kept Mississippi RiverKings' goalie busy throughout the game, and David Wilson made 27 saves on 32 shots. The IceGators were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Matthew Robertson also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Shawn McNeil, Weston Cydell, and Matt Miller, who contributed one a piece. Mississippi RiverKings forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi RiverKings surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Mississippi RiverKings was led by Patrick Gaul, who finished with one goal and one assist. Gaul scored 16:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Todd Hosmer as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Andrew Randazzo, who had one and Jeremy Dawes, who had two. Riley Gill recorded 26 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Mississippi RiverKings registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
