Columbus wins tough contest against Mississippi Surge, 3-2

The game between the Columbus Cottonmouths and Mississippi Surge was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Columbus emerged with a 3-2 win.

The Cottonmouths gained the winning advantage on a goal by John Sullivan 14:32 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Columbus was led by Sullivan, who had one goal.

The Cottonmouths excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Jordan Braid also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Tom Maldonado, Orrin Hergott, and Jonathan Redlick, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 31.5 it averages per game.

Mississippi Surge was helped by Shawn Skelly, who racked up one goal. Skelly scored 10:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Tommy Lange as well.

Andrew Loewen made 33 saves for Columbus on 35 shots. The Cottonmouths totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Kiefer Smiley recorded 26 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
