Knoxville squeaks by Augusta, 4-2Knoxville Civic Coliseum Fri, Nov 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Knoxville Ice Bears gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Augusta RiverHawks. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Shaun Arvai's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Knoxville was led by Steve Wiedler, who registered one goal. Wiedler scored 16:40 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Knoxville. Emery Olauson picked up the assist. The Ice Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Augusta power plays. Knoxville kept Augusta's goalie busy throughout the game, and BJ OBrien made 30 saves on 34 shots. The Ice Bears got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Knoxville also got a goal from Matt Pierce as well. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Ricky Helmbrecht, who had one and Mark Van Vliet, Eric Satim, and David Segal, who each chipped in two. The RiverHawks put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.6 they average per game. Augusta was helped by Taylor McReynolds, who had one goal. McReynolds scored 13:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Augusta. Curtis Megginson provided the assist. Chris Waterstradt also scored for Augusta. In addition, Augusta received assists from Matt Puntureri and Branden Kosolofsky, who contributed one a piece. Connor Toomey rejected 23 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The RiverHawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
