Brett Valliquette netted the deciding goal for the Knoxville Ice Bears in the shootout as Ice Bears prevailed over the Columbus Cottonmouths, 2-1 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams.Knoxville was led by goalie Connor Toomey, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Toomey managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.39 prior to the game. The Ice Bears stifled Columbus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 46 shots that Knoxville put on net surpassed the Ice Bears' average of 37.0 shots per game this season. Knoxville was helped by Peter Neal, who grabbed one goal. Neal scored 5:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Emery Olauson picked up the assist. The Cottonmouths excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Columbus' offense rang up 36 shots on the Ice Bears' net. The Cottonmouths were led by Derek Pallardy, who scored the team's only goal. Pallardy scored 10:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Knoxville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Vigier rejected 44 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
