Fayetteville downs Columbus, 2-1

Justin Faryna tallied one point to lead the Fayetteville FireAntz to a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Cottonmouths.

By firing 39 shots on goal, Fayetteville exceeded the 34.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Fayetteville also got a goal from Josh McQuade as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Mike Kavanagh, who had two and John Clewlow and Bobby Reed, who contributed one a piece.

Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the FireAntz to score on any of their five power plays.

The Cottonmouths were led by Sam Bowles, who scored the team's only goal. Bowles scored 3:30 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Bret Tyler picked up the assist.

Fayetteville's Marco Emond stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The FireAntz ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Andrew Loewen rejected 37 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
