Knoxville wins tough contest against Huntsville, 5-3

The Knoxville Ice Bears and the Huntsville Havoc were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Knoxville made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Emery Olauson at 8:11 of the second period.

Berkley Scott had a great game for the Ice Bears, netting two goals. Scott's tallies came at 10:05 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Knoxville and 4:50 into the third to make the score 4-2 Knoxville.

Knoxville forced Huntsville goalie Dan McWhinney to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Knoxville also got a goal from David Segal as well. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Peter Neal, who had two and Steve Wiedler, Mark Van Vliet, Mike Towns, Jon Higgins, and Matt Pierce, who contributed one a piece.

The Havoc stifled the Ice Bears' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Huntsville was led by Justin Fox, who registered two goals. Fox scored the first of his two goals at 1:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Colin Reddin picked up the assist. Fox's next tally made the score 3-2 Knoxville with 7:05 left in the second period. Ray Ortiz also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Chase Wharton and Stuart Stefan, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Rank rejected 24 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Havoc's McWhinney stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Huntsville totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
