GAME RECAP

Elliott's hat trick boosts Fayetteville over Augusta, 4-1

Phoenix Refrigeration Ice    Fri, Nov 02, 2012

Derek Elliott lifted the Fayetteville FireAntz to a 4-1 victory with a hat trick against the Augusta RiverHawks.

Elliott notched his first tally 31 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 3:24 into the first and at 13:52 into the second.

Fayetteville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the FireAntz had been spending in the box. Fayetteville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Elliott, Brandon Richardson and Anthony Bergin took 15 of the team's 29 shots.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Richardson, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Mike Gurtler, Kyle McNeil, Justin Faryna, and Kyle Frieday, who each chipped in one.

Augusta's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put nine shots on net during the game.

The RiverHawks were led by Jason Price, who scored the team's only goal. Price scored on the power play 12:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Augusta earned a power play opportunity when Bobby Reed was put in the box for interference. Chad Ziegler picked up the assist.

Marco Emond rejected 20 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The RiverHawks' starting goalie, Robbie Moss, made 21 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of BJ OBrien, who stopped four shots. Augusta totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with two minors and three majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
