Steve Christie recorded a shutout against Mississippi Surge as the Pensacola Ice Flyers picked up a 2-0 win.

Mississippi Surge's power play was ineffective against Pensacola's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Ice Flyers were led by Jeremy Gates, who registered one goal. Gates scored on the power play 18:57 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Pensacola had taken the advantage when Mississippi Surge's Nicholas Kuqali got sent off for tripping. Ryan Raven assisted on the tally.

The the Ice Flyers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Pensacola surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Flyers stifled Mississippi Surge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pensacola got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Pensacola also got a goal from Tyler Miller as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Chris Benias, Bill Foster, and Pat Knowlton, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 42 penalty minutes. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Tommy Lange, Jeff Grant and Shawn Skelly took 16 of the team's 29 shots.
