Louisiana uses shootout to best Huntsville, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Matt Miller netted the deciding goal for the Louisiana IceGators in the shootout as IceGators prevailed over the Huntsville Havoc, 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Huntsville's shootout goal was scored by Colin Reddin. Louisiana's other shootout goal was scored by Shawn McNeil.

The IceGators came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Louisiana was down 3-2 after a goal by the Havoc's Reddin at 1:17 in the third period. The IceGators knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Denny Kearney at 5:29 in the third period.

Louisiana got the win on the strength of a great game by Miller, who had one goal and one assist. Miller scored 9:02 into the second period to make the score 2-2. McNeil picked up the assist.

The the IceGators penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Louisiana surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The IceGators' offense was clicking better than usual and put 44 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.9 shots per game they average.

Louisiana was led by Miller, who registered one goal and one assist. Brett Liscomb also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Matthew Robertson and Robert Short, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 16.4 it averages per game.

Huntsville also got points from Stuart Stefan, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Fox, who had two and Derek Foam and Ray Ortiz, who contributed one a piece.

The IceGators' Riley Gill stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Louisiana registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Dan McWhinney made 40 saves for the Havoc on 43 shots. Huntsville totaled 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
