Jersey Hitmen holds on for 5-4 win against Suffolk

The Suffolk Juniors tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but Jersey Hitmen held on for a 5-4 victory.

Jersey Hitmen took a 5-3 lead during the second period, only to have Suffolk storm back on a Christopher Stemke goal 16:54 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Jersey Hitmen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Jersey Hitmen had been spending in the box. Jersey Hitmen kept the Juniors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Peter Fosso made 36 saves on 41 shots.

Jersey Hitmen was led by David Kleyman, who grabbed three goals. Jersey Hitmen additionally got points from Glenn Florczak, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jersey Hitmen also got a goal from Luke Rodgers as well. In addition, Jersey Hitmen received assists from Cory Sala, who had two and James Martello, Cody Calcagno, Collin Kirkpatrick, and Dylan Healey, who contributed one a piece.

Suffolk racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Juniors surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Suffolk excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Juniors were helped by Michael Leone, who registered one goal and two assists. Leone scored 1:41 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Nicholas Mangone assisted on the tally. Suffolk also got points from Mangone, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Stemke, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Nicholas Randazzo, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Suffolk came via Nicholas Ambery and Cameron Smith, who each chipped in one.

Jordan Hulahan made 16 saves for Jersey Hitmen on 20 shots. Jersey Hitmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Martello was ejected from the game. Suffolk registered three goals on six power play opportunities.
