Hampton Roads hangs on, beats Adirondack 2-1

The Hampton Roads Whalers took the lead against the Adirondack Junior Wings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Jonathon Jones provided Hampton Roads with the game-winning tally when he scored 11:41 into the the first period. A cross checking penalty on Liam McGuey had put the Whalers on the power play. Jacob Toro picked up the assist.

Jones was all over the ice for Hampton Roads, as he tallied two goals in the win.

Adirondack was stymied by the Whalers netminder Taylor Brost, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Brost certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.38 entering the contest.

Hampton Roads stifled the Junior Wings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Whalers were held below their usual level of production. Hampton Roads averages 4.1 goals per game.

More assists for Hampton Roads came via Jeremy Wilson, Michael Addison, and Nathan Kanter, who contributed one a piece.

The Whalers were unable to stop Adirondack from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Wings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Adirondack was led by Cam Shepardson, who scored the team's only goal. Shepardson scored 19:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads. Jarrett Distasi provided the assist.

Hampton Roads incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Junior Wings' starting goalie, Crae Messer, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Chet Tooker, who stopped 12 shots. Adirondack incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
