Bay State beats Salem 4-0 as Farrell gains shutout

Matthew Farrell recorded a shutout against the Salem Ice Dogs as the Bay State Breakers picked up a 4-0 win.

Bay State pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Breakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Salem to score on any of its six power plays. Bay State's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Breakers average 2.1 goals allowed per game. Bay State forced the Ice Dogs goalie Shawn Horton to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

The Breakers were helped by John Sheehan, who registered one goal. Sheehan scored 30 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bay State. Charles Murphy provided the assist. Bay State also got points from Gavin Yates, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Christopher Perry also scored for Bay State. More assists for Bay State came via Antonio Marini, who had one and Christopher Duffy and Ryan ODonnell, who contributed two a piece.

Salem could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Ice Dogs average 2.4 goals per game. Salem's offense rang up 32 shots on Bay State's net.

The Breakers' Farrell stopped 32 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Bay State registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Horton rejected 44 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs. Salem incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
