Brewster uses shootout to best Adirondack, 7-6 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brewster Bulldogs defeated the Adirondack Junior Wings in a shootout 7-6 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Adirondack's shootout goal was scored by Dustin Lavalley. Brewster's other shootout goal was scored by Kevin McGee.

The Bulldogs saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Brewster made the score 4-1 on a goal by McGee at 49 seconds in the second period. The Junior Wings evened things up at 6-6 on a goal by Francesco Sherding at 19:30 in the third period.

The Bulldogs was paced on offense by Robert VanRaamsdonk and McGee, who combined for six points. VanRaamsdonk finished with two goals and McGee also added three goals and one assist.

Brewster made Junior Wings' goaltenders to work without much rest, ripping 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Crae Messer made 21 stops and Chet Tooker made seven. The Bulldogs surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Brewster averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Brewster additionally got points from Sherding, who also had one goal and three assists and McGee, who also racked up three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Brewster received assists from Sean Henderson, who had three and Christopher Litwin, Brad Alexander, and Owen Gatto, who contributed one a piece.

The Bulldogs were unable to stop Adirondack from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Wings eventually piled up 67 shots on goal. Adirondack bested its season scoring average. The Junior Wings average 3.1 goals per game. Adirondack got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

The Junior Wings were helped by Brian Daury, who grabbed two goals. Daury scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:20 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Brewster. Adirondack earned a power play opportunity when Alexander was put in the box for tripping. Matt Flynn provided the assist. Daury's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 12:22 left in the third period. Joey Eben assisted on the tally. Adirondack also got points from Ryan Flynn, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Flynn, who also had one goal and two assists. Andrew Bourdeau also scored for Adirondack. More assists for Adirondack came via Sam Vincent, who had three and Cam Shepardson, David Wilgocki, and Lavalley, who each chipped in one.

Brewster's Conor Bunyan stopped 61 shots out of the 67 that he faced. The Bulldogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Junior Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
