Brewster beats Adirondack 6-5 after comeback scare

The Brewster Bulldogs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Adirondack Junior Wings on the way to a 6-5 win.

A goal by Robert VanRaamsdonk put Brewster up 6-3 in the third period, but Adirondack pulled to within one on Ryan Flynn's tally 19:42 into the third period.

Kevin McGee had two goals and three assists to lead the Bulldogs. McGee scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Adirondack. Brewster had taken the advantage when the Junior Wings' David Wilgocki got sent off for boarding. Brad Alexander assisted on the tally. McGee's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 7:13 left in the second period. Zach Cassano provided the assist.

The Bulldogs' offense rang up 50 shots on Adirondack's net. Brewster's goal total was higher than its season average. The Bulldogs have scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack the Junior Wings' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Brewster got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Brewster also got points from Sean Henderson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and VanRaamsdonk, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brewster also got a goal from Jonathan Lovorn as well. More assists for Brewster came via Umbro Mark, who had one.

The Adirondack penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Junior Wings surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bulldogs were unable to stop Adirondack from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Wings eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Adirondack was helped by Andrew Mundweiler, who grabbed one goal. Mundweiler scored 13:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Adirondack. Flynn picked up the assist. Adirondack additionally got points from Flynn, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Joey Eben, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cam Shepardson also scored for Adirondack. In addition, Adirondack received assists from Andrew Bourdeau, Sam Vincent, Brian Daury, and Nicholas Oda, who each chipped in one.

Conor Bunyan recorded 35 saves for Brewster. The Bulldogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Junior Wings' Matt Cologgi stopped 44 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Adirondack registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Junior Wings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shane Kanaly was ejected from the game.
