NY AppleCore beats Syracuse 4-2 as Schoenberg gets hat trick

A hat trick by Cale Schoenberg was the highlight in Minor B's 4-2 win against the Syracuse Junior Stars.

Schoenberg got on the scoresheet 15:50 into the second period. He then added goals at 5:22 into the third and at 19:35 into the third.

Syracuse was unable to stop the NY AppleCore Minor B from sending pucks towards the net, and NY AppleCore eventually piled up 54 shots on goal.

Nolan Pues also scored for NY AppleCore. More assists for NY AppleCore came via Kevin T Miller and Jonathan Kaszuba, who each chipped in one and Daniel Basist and Blake Manginell, who contributed two a piece.

The Junior Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Minor B to score on any of their four power plays. Syracuse forced NY AppleCore goalie Christoph Mutschin to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

The Junior Stars were helped by Jesse Farabee, who racked up one goal. Farabee scored on the power play 14:50 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Syracuse earned a power play opportunity when Manginell was put in the box for hooking. Garth Gray assisted on the tally. Syracuse also got a goal from Nate Zweig as well. Other players who recorded assists for Syracuse were Anthony Angello, Benjamin Engelbrekt, and Joey Rutkowski, who each chipped in one.

Mutschin recorded 44 saves for the Minor B. NY AppleCore incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Junior Stars' Nate Skidmore stopped 50 shots out of the 53 that he faced. Syracuse totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For the Junior Stars, Tyler OMara was ejected from the game.
