NY AppleCore pulls away in second, rolls over Adirondack, 8-2

The Adirondack Junior Wings was within striking distance after one period, but the NY AppleCore Minor B put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-2 victory.

John Stevenson was all over the ice for NY AppleCore, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Stevenson scored the first of his two goals at 12:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. James Sharpe assisted on the tally. Stevenson's next tally made the score 3-1 NY AppleCore with 17:39 left in the second period. Kevin T Miller picked up the assist.

The Minor B's penalty kill excelled, as NY AppleCore gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Minor B made Adirondack's goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 53 shots and forcing 45 saves. Chet Tooker made 20 stops and Crae Messer made 25. NY AppleCore stifled the Junior Wings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Minor B bested their season scoring average. This season, NY AppleCore averages 4.0 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals. The Minor B were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

NY AppleCore additionally got points from Sharpe, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Jonas Toupal, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Nolan Pues, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. NY AppleCore also had goals scored by Daniel Basist, who had one and Liam Pues, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Darren Aikens and Robert DeLury, who each chipped in one and Brian Birbrayer and Nicolas Jasmin, who contributed two a piece.

Adirondack could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Junior Wings were led by Andrew Mundweiler, who had two goals. Mundweiler scored the first of his two goals at 9:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Adirondack. Kyle Fitscher assisted on the tally. Mundweiler's next tally made the score 7-2 NY AppleCore with 10:51 left in the third period.

Christoph Mutschin rejected 26 shots on goal for NY AppleCore. The Minor B registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Adirondack ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shane Kanaly was ejected from the game.
