Maksymum falls to NY AppleCore after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the NY AppleCore Minor B battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester).

NY AppleCore never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Minor B fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Maksymum's Kevin DiMagno at 14:17 in the second period. NY AppleCore knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by John Stevenson at 16:35 in the third period. The Minor B got the game winner on the power play at 18:19 in the third period on a goal by Stevenson.

NY AppleCore was paced on offense by Andrew DeAngelis and Jonas Toupal, who combined for six points. DeAngelis had one goal and two assists and Toupal also notched one goal and two assists.

The Minor B forced the Junior Hockey (Rochester) goalie Ian Sylves to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

NY AppleCore also got points from James Sharpe, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Toupal, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, NY AppleCore received assists from Andrew Barroso, Kevin T Miller, and Blake Manginell, who contributed one a piece.

Maksymum kept NY AppleCore's goalie busy throughout the game, and Christoph Mutschin made 36 saves on 39 shots. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Maksymum was led by William Holbrook, who finished with two goals. Holbrook scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Maksymum. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) had gained a power play chance when Liam Pues was whistled for slashing. Daniel Goldstein assisted on the tally. Holbrook's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Maksymum with two seconds left in the first period. Dylan Versage provided the assist. More assists for Maksymum came via Joseph Snook and Michael Whitehair, who each chipped in one.

The Minor B incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sylves recorded 38 saves for Maksymum. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Maksymum, Coach Kolcon was ejected from the game.
