NY AppleCore downs Maksymum in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The NY AppleCore Minor B pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester) on a clutch goal by James Sharpe.

In the losing effort, Maksymum was sparked by Gregory Miller, who finished with two goals. Miller scored the first of his two goals at 16:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Maksymum. Joshua Johnston picked up the assist. Miller's next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:47 left in the third period. Dylan Versage provided the assist.

In the losing effort, the Junior Hockey (Rochester) were paced by Miller, who grabbed two goals.

NY AppleCore made Maksymum's goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 36 shots and forcing 33 saves. Ian Sylves made 19 stops and Jake Bryniarski made 14. The Minor B put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Junior Hockey (Rochester) to score on any of their three power plays.

NY AppleCore additionally got points from Blake Manginell, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Liam Pues also scored for NY AppleCore. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Andrew DeAngelis, Justin Kapelmaster, and Kevin T Miller, who contributed one a piece.

Maksymum forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Junior Hockey (Rochester) had been spending in the box. Maksymum did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) average 4.1 goals per game.

More assists for Maksymum came via Joseph Snook, who had one.

Kapelmaster recorded 28 saves for NY AppleCore. The Minor B incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
