Cotera's big game bests Space Coast in 4-1 Frederick win

Florian Cotera had one goal and three assists to lead the Frederick Freeze to a 4-1 victory over the Space Coast Hurricanes.

Cotera got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 12:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Frederick. Frederick had taken the advantage when Space Coast's Brian Clare got sent off for cross checking. Richard Novodomec provided the assist. Cotera dished an assist on Logan Coomes' goal that made the score 1-1 at 6:15 into the first period. He then added assists on Zachary Pard's goal at 5:33 into the second and on Ian Soifer's goal at 16:38 into the second.

The Hurricanes were stymied by the Freeze netminder Michal Marcinek, who stopped 39 shots during the victory. The solid play of Marcinek will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.09.

Frederick put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Space Coast to score on any of its five power plays. The Freeze's offense rang up 34 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Frederick additionally got points from Coomes, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Frederick received assists from Reid Bibb and Nicholas Price, who contributed one a piece.

Space Coast's offense rang up 40 shots on Frederick's net. The Hurricanes could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Space Coast was led by Alec Waszczenko, who scored the team's only goal. Waszczenko scored 5:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Space Coast. Selbold assisted on the tally.

The Freeze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Patrick Tepedino rejected 30 shots on goal for the Hurricanes.
