Great Falls outlasts Gillette, 3-2

The Great Falls Americans and the Gillette Wild were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Great Falls made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Lucas Lomax secured the win for the Americans with a goal in the second period.

Lomax had two goals to lead Great Falls to victory.

The Americans were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Great Falls also got a goal from Jake Bystrak as well. More assists for Great Falls came via Erik Gatson, who had two and Dylan Garton, Lucas Stover, and Connor Barta, who each chipped in one.

Gillette's offense operated below it season average. The Wild put an average of 4.7 pucks into the net per game. Gillette forced Great Falls goalie Erik Powell to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Wild had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Gillette was led by Taylor Motsinger, who registered one goal and one assist. Motsinger scored on the power play 11:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gillette. The Wild had gained a power play chance when Stover was whistled for high sticking. Alex King assisted on the tally. Steve Patafio also scored for Gillette. Other players who recorded assists for Gillette were Ronnie Wilshusen, who had one.

Erik Powell made 37 saves for the Americans on 39 shots. Great Falls incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Sean Kelley rejected 19 shots on goal for Gillette. The Wild incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
