Billings wins tough contest against Bozeman, 6-4

The Billings Bulls and the Bozeman Icedogs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Billings made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Bulls gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jarrett Stark 18:11 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Billings was led by John Vant, who grabbed one goal. Vant scored on the power play 14:11 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Billings. The Bulls had gained a power play chance when Tyler Reble was whistled for hooking.

Billings kept Bozeman's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jude Hall made 30 saves on 36 shots. The Bulls' goal total was higher than their season average. Billings has scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Billings also got points from Alex Herman, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dixon Whitehead, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Billings also got a goal from Luke Bing as well. In addition, Billings received assists from Ging Martin, who had two and Trey Robillard, Stephen Thompson, and Nick Rizzo, who contributed one a piece.

The Icedogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Bozeman surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Icedogs outdid their season average for goals scored. Bozeman averages 1.5 goal per game.

The Icedogs were helped by Brett Barezewski, who racked up one goal. Barezewski scored short handed 3:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bozeman. Bozeman played down a man on Joe Dixon's checking from behind. Steven Nisbet picked up the assist. Bozeman additionally got points from Tyler Elson, who also had one goal and one assist, Jesse Game, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nisbet, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Bozeman came via Spencer Hallin, who had one and Tristen Franzen, who had two.

The Bulls' starting goalie, Nic Wackerly, made 14 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Brennan Clarke, who stopped three shots. Billings totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Icedogs registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
