Yellowstone takes care of Great Falls early, wins 9-0

Victor J Riley    Fri, Feb 15, 2013

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Great Falls Americans, which could not recover and fell to the Yellowstone Quake, 9-0.

Yellowstone got the win thanks to a great game by Sam Basich, who had one goal and three assists. Basich scored 5:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Yellowstone. Anthony Leong picked up the assist.

The Quake's penalty kill excelled, as Yellowstone gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Quake forced Americans' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 41 shots and forcing 32 saves. Evan Hauser made 15 stops and Erik Powell made 17. Yellowstone stifled Great Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Quake found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Yellowstone also got a goal from Tanner Fricke as well. More assists for Yellowstone came via Brandon Smith and Josh Greenaker, who contributed one a piece.

The Americans did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Great Falls puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. The Americans' penalty kill unit could not stop the Quake's power play, which converted on three of four opportunities.

Jared Schletty rejected 22 shots on goal for Yellowstone. The Quake incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Great Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
